The women of the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein get together every year to celebrate the thing that brings them all so much joy: quiche.
While on the surface it may seem all about the egg, it becomes apparent to both the characters and the audience that the annual quiche breakfast is about so much more than that. It’s about the bonds of community and fellowship in survival. Historically, queer people have had to build their own family and the widows of the SBASSGS are no different. In tough times, it’s good to always remember “We are once, twice, three times the lady when we’re standing arm in arm.
